Product Description

Modify your Taranis X9D or X9D Plus with this 6 position mode switch. The 6 position switch can be installed in place of your S1 or S2 pots at the top of your Taranis radio. The result will be a 6 position rotary switch that can be used for flight modes, flap positions, or whatever you can think of.  Users asked for this feature, and FrSky listened!  This will require basic soldering skill to install.

Especially on Taranis X9D Plus, you also able to add this component to be S3 pots.

  1. FrSky 6 POSITION ENCODER MODE/FLAP SWITCH 5 Star Review

Posted by on 2nd Sep 2016

The switch was shipped VERY fast!
I followed the videos available on the site and installation was a breeze. The switch worked perfect on my Taranis X9D and the programming videos were spot on making the job easy! I would HIGHLY recommend this switch modification, and anything sold by HeliBatics.com

  2. 6 Posistion Encoder Mode/Flap Switch 5 Star Review

Posted by on 15th Jun 2016

On my Taranis x9d Plus it was a very simple straight forward installation , no problems what so ever . Switch operates flawlessly . I just followed the excellent installtion instrutions by David from Helibatics .

  3. Switch install and flight modes. 4 Star Review

Posted by on 2nd Apr 2016

I had some problems with this. The soldering wasn't a problem even though I wish my tip was smaller, connections very close on Taranis board.
The problem I had was where I placed the switch on the Taranis. I placed it in line with the handle and center. I should have placed it toward the inner edge of the handle and down toward the handle because when I first tried it, it intermittently would show only two positions, one and six no matter where the dial was.
After some fiddling I got it to work.
Since I watched several videos an setting up flight modes, explaining two methods, curve and switches, good in the fact both methods are explained and not so good in the fact both were explained in one video. Wrapping my head around two different methods at the same time, I find difficult.
I will revisit it for the special functions section.

  4. Mode switch install 5 Star Review

The video David produced made the install painless, the taranis being what it is I tripped over myself a couple times making the Taranis see it had a 6 pos encoder in itself...great addition to my Taranis

  9. Works as expect 4 Star Review

Posted by on 19th May 2015

I should start by saying that my Taranis is the older, non-Plus model, which lacks the vacant

"S3" switch port. Thus, I needed to disable one of the existing potentiometers, redirecting its

input to the switch. If I find the need, I might add another switch to toggle back and forth

between the 6-position switch and the original potentiometer. Taranis Plus users won't have

this problem, they could keep using all the radio's potentiometers AND the 6-position switch.

The good news is that the switch does work on older Taranis radios, not just the Plus.

I elected from the start to do the mod suggested by user "lexm" in RCGroups, giving this switch

a linear-ish curve in the Taranis. When used stock, the resulting curve reportedly was -100,0

20,30,50,100. With the mod, the curve is more linear -100,-51,-0,33,66,100. Of course a custom

curve could be programmed giving a linear output on the channel assigned to the switch, but I

chose to do the mod anyway and have a more linear curve from the start.

The switch has somewhat of a soft feel to the detents, laking well defined tactile "clicks". To

my taste they could be a bit more pronounced. When the switch was new, the internal friction

was enough to momentarily overcome the detent centering action so it was quite possible to feel

like you were in a detent when in reality the switch was still "in between" contacts. When that

was the case, a slight CW-CCW jiggling was enough to make proper contact in the current detent.

After a couple of days of use, as the switch got "broken in", proper contact is made every time

    with no difficulties whatsoever.

Overall I'm pleased with the swit

  10. It does everything I expected it to. 5 Star Review

The knob is exactly the same style as the other Taranis pot knobs and the video showed every detail I needed to install and calibrate it. The link to the video is here.

The video, however, shows twisting the wires after you solder them on. I recommend twisting the wires before soldering so the solder joints are not under stress.
